For example, our olfactory nerves and sense of smell can soothe underlying discomfort or alert the sympathetic nervous system that helps us relax. These parts of our brain are wired to assist the flow of information and thus are part of the germ-rejection and subsequent healing processes.
We think we’re making the choice, but actually our brain’s intelligence and the limbic system are primed to receive stimuli and then relay messages about it to other parts of the body.
