Do you have a favorite anti-microbial scent?

One that opens the breath and calms your nerves?

The aromas of essential oils contain protective substances known as anti-microbials

Defined as a material that “resists or destroys pathogenic micro-organisms,” antimicrobial substances are manufactured by a plant for its own protection against insects and other marauders.  These anti-microbial substances are part of a plant’s life force.

In this post, my focus is on anti-microbial actions, a component from plants we recognize as protective against pathogens.

Plants offer Protection…

Scents and aromas of Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Basil in the photograph above are anti-microbial. Sweet Marjoram, the dried herb, and the resin of Frankincense are anti-microbial, too. Shown above laced with orange peels, these aromas represent essences that are sympathetic to the breath and calming to the spirit.

… with their molecules of scent!

Immunity

You may have heard about famous formulas in scent history that provided immunity from the disease of the times.  One of these was Thieves blend of Rosemary, Thyme, and Sage for warding off the Plague in 1300s Europe.

There are doubtless hundreds of stories about the capacity that essential oils have to combat germs.  This is the plant’s life force at work as remedial for the human body.

Essential oils distilled from the flowers, leaves, barks, branches, roots, and seeds of herbs and trees are broadly medicinal. They are anti-microbial and thus are helpful in situations where your immunity is, or soon could be, compromised. Also, they offer actions on the nerves and can be stimulating or calming and soothing, too. These oils are balm for the body and soul.

When inhaled or applied topically in a carrier oil or cream, scents offer the potential for healing you inside and out.

Keeping germs at bay – that’s what anti-microbial substances do best.

You may remember the scent of products such as chest salves, or blended oils for diffusers with odours that open your breath. These substances control germs, help clear the air and your nose.

Your Sensitivity to Well-being

Wishing to maintain a healthy state of being, you’ll combine your best diet, excercise and rest, supplementing with certain habits.

Intentionally smelling or applying scented solutions brings awareness of aromas or odors that offer physical and emotional support, emphasizing a sense of wellness.
