Reawaken Your Senses to the Power of Aromas, Scents, and Smells
Reawaken to smells, scents and aromas and build positive energy in your life.
Scent is a powerful tool of discovery. Scents you like help identify emotions and memories. With scent as an ally, it’s possible to explore your life experiences from a deeply personal perspective.
Your experiences, whether influenced by scent, or encouraged by aromas may reveal an empowered sense of self. They could be the means to uplift your conscious and help you be your best. Thus your experiences influence personal discovery and connections you haven’t known before.
The body processes scent, smells, odors, fragrances, aromas, automatically and continually. But you won’t realize the benefits of olfaction and the processing of smells unless you slow down, take an aroma break, or meditate and pay attention to a smell and your inner self.
Value Your Least Understood Sense
Our senses create an awareness, yes. They are always evaluating conditions such as safety, etc. But more than that, they are key to what we value about life. Taken for granted for too long, our sense of smell has taken a back seat to other senses, our sight, touch, taste, and hearing. Instead of relying on one sense as our source of information, for example our sense of sight, we could chose to reactivate and listen to other senses, perhaps our least-understood sense. If reactivated, or reawakened, our sense of smell helps us achieve balance in our day to day life.
Truths about Aromas
Do you have an opinion about scent? Some scents you adore while others you simply don’t like, right?
If you and I have our favorite scents, I think you’ll agree: aromas impact our senses and make enduring impressions.
You know, when I first started studying it, I imagined Aromatherapy as having unique healing powers. I believed that the right aromas can actually open the body’s pathways to healing.
Choosing Aromas for Aromatherapy
Part of my awe of these substances is the awareness of two opposing, positive and negative, qualities of essential oils.
Coming straight from a plant’s metabolism without additives or preservatives, essential oils are intensely strong substances that have the capacity to heal.
However, if used incorrectly, essential oils also have the effect of causing skin rash or other physical sensitivity, and to interfere with medications.
On Essential Oils and their Effects
As I’m discovering, a certain calmness results from inhalation of a beautiful scent. You might agree. An aroma is indeed powerful when it stimulates your body to take care of itself. The effect can be subtle. Or, not so subtle, depending on your reception of a particular scent.
When you inhale an aroma that you think is lovely, your brain’s smell-receptor functions are activated! This is the first in a series of messages that are released for processing by your body’s senses.
It’s like the flow of Qi, or energy — energy wants to keep flowing. When stress becomes acute and chronic, Qi gets stuck. Stuck Qi can be painful and bring on physical ill-ease.
Resolve Stress with an Aroma You Love
Some of the concerns of stress can be mitigated with anti-stress blends for insomnia, anxious breathing, or nervous stomach. Others may reduce aches and pains by increased aromatic awareness. Skin splits at the nailbed, cracked and dry heel skin, frequently dry skin, itchy skin, and persistent breakouts may be alleviated with care and with application of gels, or oils and salves. Gels carry anti-microbial essential oils for oily skin. Breath-opening oils on the skin can ease the breath in case of colds, flus. Emotional stress can be addressed with essential oil blends.
